Leeanne as Toastmaster doesn’t happen all that often, but when it does, it’s a sight to see. What fun we had with the thrifty living theme.
Maria as Table Topics Master ran with the theme. She asked Brian what he would be willing to give up if he was broke. His answer? His roof, which apparently needed to be replaced. She asked Lee what clever, cheap idea he had to keep up with the recession. Lee answered that he simply has chosen not to participate in the recession. She asked Stephen how the recession has affected him. He answered that it has given him writing material. Great questions. Great answers.
Two newer members delivered two memorable speeches. John told of a time when he agreed to be dropped off downtown with no money and no phone for three days. Through that experience, he learned not to be emotionally connected with things. Robin then offered tips for delivering a speech that is going to be covered in print. He suggested we speak as if in text, that we consider the medium, and that we pose clear, strong questions.
Corky, Carol and Louis evaluated. We were reminded to approach the opening of our speeches with confidence and to, more often than not, state our purpose up front.
