So Erin thinks I can’t be the Toastmaster and post the recap. Dude! Where’s my car? And if that’s not bad enough, she uses her techno-savvy to eavesdrop on the meeting from, what, seven states away? I’ll have to go consult my Map-of-the-United States shower curtain for that one.
Our theme was Fifty. Because Capital City Toastmasters Club is 50 years old this year. And because we got a $50 Gift Certificate to commemorate that fact at the recent District Conference. And Cool Hand Luke ate 50 hardboiled eggs. Just to make a point. That life is more exciting when you push the envelope and try to do more.
Speaking of which, guess who has a killer sense of humor, we are learning, as the weeks go by…Heather! Oh my Gosh she was hilarious today with her awkward, tentative, shy-seeming approach, which turned out to be an inroad to a delightful self-effacing and – dare I say it – adorable Table Topics presentation. Keep bringing it Heather! Other contenders in the Table Topics arena today were Albert, who said dear, sweet things about his eventual 50th wedding anniversary, Lora, who has been cosmically selected to create space for those in need in the universe by Thowing Out 50 Things, and Keith (great to see you Keith, even if you did trip your hand with the tips on how to commit a murder and get away with it: big shoes, amassing a misleading DNA collection of 50 kinds of hair)
Louis did a fine and speech on Asserting Yourself Effectively that provided us with helpful tools: 1) Decide what is wrong, 2) Say it is wrong, 3) Make it right, and 4) turn out the light. These are not the actual tips. One of them had to do with saying the word because with fervor. Corky, who evaluated Louis, maintained that assertiveness is all about body language and attitude. Simply put: Say it like you mean it.
Rey did a touching speech about her dog Sammy, who was her beloved rescue puppy and member of the family. He touched her heart, and, in turn, Rey touched our hearts with his story. There is nothing like a happy, loving dog to light up your world. Her evaluator, Robert, told her she was milking the sympathy angle by adding the fake limp (totally kidding!!!!!!!!!!)
Congratulations to our ribbon winners!
