If you missed last week, you missed a lot.  Stephen did a wonderful job as a first time Toastmaster and set out a clever (if not slightly dorky in the lovingly adorable sort of way) theme of March Forth on…well, March 4.  His theme inspired discussion on a number of causes.  Most memorable was Lora’s tirade on her cause of pocket disparity.  As General Evaluator, she rallied the troops to insist on pockets in women’s clothing.  Susana, Zahra, Rey and others all echoed their agreement.  Only Albert protested her cause, touting instead his own man purse cause.  Her performance prompted perhaps the first ever award for Best Humor to be given to the General Evaluator!

Louis took charge as Table Topics Master.  When asked what he would do with money to make the world a better place, Charles answered that he’d use the funds to invest in TV ads for an online business that teaches more creative thinking.  When asked what he protested or wanted to protest, Kirk boldly – not baldly - answered that he’d protest the unfair treatment of those follically challenged.  When ask what she would like to organize in a community, Taline answered that she’d organize a parade of honest selves.  Each question played beautifully on the March Forth! theme.  Good job, Louis.  And Charles, you did a wonderful job on your first ever Table Topic.  Welcome to the club!

Lee, who only recently joined, delivered his second speech.  This time he spoke about corporate volunteering and how it’s possible to participate in something fun (like housing a band) that can turn into something much bigger and really cool (like knowing you helped in the early years of SXSW).  Carol delivered her tips for a loving relationship: be yourself, communicate openly, share interests, and be committed.  She speaks from experience – 29 years of marriage!  Finally, Patrick B. delivered his icebeaker even though he had committed for Lent not to talk about himself.   Patrick, we’re glad you bent the rules a bit and appreciate especially that you shared with us the Platinum Rule, which is to treat others the way *they* want to be treated.

Stuart, Patrick R. and Brian evaluated and all came up with useful tips.  Have a strong opening.   Use anecdotes and put yourself into the story.  Shake hands with the Toastmaster before you sit down.

Robin was a first time grammarian and set “oops” as the word of the day.  He thought only Stephen used the word of the day, but actually at least Lora and Lee managed to work it in too.  Just goes to show that when we’re engaged in what’s being said, we don’t always hear things, even when we’re listening for them!

From beginning to end, it was an engaging meeting.  Thanks to all for their participation. Carry on, troops.
