Who could lead a meeting on life choices better than Corky, our resident successful entrepreneur who lives in shorts and sandals?
Stuart appropriately opened the meeting with a reminder that, even if we can choose nothing else, we can choose our attitudes.
Lee demonstrated a go-for-it attitude when he jumped into Table Topics Mastering after a few short weeks with our club. Patrick, a new member, relayed his recent, perhaps fortuitous, humane society experience and explained that his first choice for a pet is a dog. When asked where he’d live if he couldn’t answer Austin, Kirk chose to disregard the instructions and answer Austin, but only after telling us the many places he’s lived. Finally, Brendan told us that he’d rather have someone else choose his spouse than his job, as long as he could choose the person who would choose the spouse.
We had two different speeches. Taline explained how the choice to come to Toastmasters has changed things in her life a bit. Patrick considered the options in dealing with difficult situations with a parent.
Albert and Brendan evaluated. Possible universal tips include the suggestion to use body movements more effectively and have structure to the speech, no matter what the topic. Lora, as general evaluator, praised all the table topics participants and reminded the club to pass the lectern with a handshake. She also asked that we not fold ballots so that the vote counter doesn’t spend precious minutes unfolding small pieces of paper.
Finally, the club chose to vote in five new members – Kirk, Russell, Zahra, Lee and Patrick. We’re glad you guys made the choice to visit and join the club. Welcome to you all.
