Last week, incoming President Keith stepped in and presided over the meeting. We got a taste of what’s to come with his presidency. Chaos. Disorder. Mayhem. Much like what happens when kids are given too much candy. In fact, all of us kids were given too much candy, so we had a wonderfully energetic meeting.
It should come as no surprise that Rey - the queen of high energy – led this meeting as Toastmaster. She taught us the history of candy canes and provided scientific proof that the reindeer we know as Dasher and Dancer and Donner and whatever were all, in fact, female. Since male reindeer drop their antlers in November and female reindeer carry theirs through to spring, the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh must have been female. Yeah women. We pulled the sleigh and carried much of this meeting.
Jenny timed. Wendy acted as grammarian. Maureen and Amy gave speeches. Lora and Maria evaluated. Albert, Stuart and Patrick did something too, but since they’re off trying to grow antlers, we’ll focus on the ladies.
Susana delivered an awesome table topic on the goodies her child and adult self would want in her stocking, and she threw in a sweet candy cane story to boot. Taline explained how Carlos inspired the romance novel she’s working on by letting his hair down at the Christmas party. Maria discussed her love, as a kid and as an adult, for cotton candy and candy apples. Corky and Keith also did table topics, but whatever.
Then we had the honor of hearing Maureen speak on the importance of salt in world and Texas history. Amy demonstrated inexpensive ways to wow others at Christmas and, in the process, thanked Lora and Susana for their service to this club.
When it was all said and done, we awarded the following:
Best Table Topic: Taline
Best Speaker: Amy
Best Humor: Taline
Most Enthusiastic: Rey
Oh, and Stuart got Best Evaluator, but whatever.
This week, we’ve got Amy as Toastmaster and Rey, Jenny, Susana, Wendy, Taline, and Maria in various roles. And there are some men lined up to speak, but whatever.
We hope to see you on Wednesday. Even you men.
