Rey, in her continuing quest to be a race car driver, hurled us into the world of cars.
Susana, one of our newer members, drove head on into her second role with our club – this time as invocator. In the process, she confessed that her choice car is not a car at all, but is her horse, Emma.
Ace driver Amy had to miss the meeting, so another new member, Brian, took the wheel as Grammarian and taught us to “swerve” in more ways than one.
Then we sped right into the speeches. Stuart, who mourns the Toyota Corolla his daughter totalled, taught us about digital cameras. Stuart went WAY over time, so we learned a lot. We learned that an 8 megapixel camera is plenty of camera for anyone wanting to print snapshots up to 8x10s. We also learned that optical zoom matters, but digital zoom does not. Finally, we learned that other factors to consider include size, weight, whether we require a viewfinder, the various controls available, and whether we want the camera to record movies. Then Ania, a GTO girl, flashed us with a chest full of “Best Humor” ribbons and delivered another funny but thoughtful speech in which she gave us a heads up as to her future speeches. She said that she intends to deliver some speeches about Jesus and asked that we be a test audience for her, even though we may have different views. Ania explained that, although she loves to entertain us, her goal is to be a better communicator on issues of faith.
After the speeches, we sped right into evaluations, with Jenny “I want a car that runs on smiles and rainbows” as chief. Jason and Bert evaluated, and both acknowledged that the speeches were so good that they had few critical suggestions. One suggested a little more simplified explanation here and there. The other suggested less reliance on notes.
We then spun out and found ourselves smack in the middle of Table Topics at the end of the meeting! Lora and Stephen may have thought they were safe, but no. They were side swiped with questions about dream car designs and inexpensive cars.
Once we saw the checkered flags, the rest of us breathed more easily and unbuckled our seatbelts. We’d had quite a ride.
