205 pounds of sexy (aka Carlos) toastmastered a high energy first meeting of 2009.  His theme?  The number 2, which he thought of while going a number 2 a while ago.  Coming from the average man, we might go “eeeeewwwwwww,” but from Carlos, we loved it.  The handsome young thing can do no wrong.

Amy table topics mastered consistent with the theme.  What would Carol do differently if given a second chance?  She’d delay college and getting married and travel the world and date more.  What does “it takes two to tango” mean to Taline?  After a rocky start, she figured out that it means going to the Broken Spoke this Saturday for Dale Watson.  (Come out if you can!)  What does “it takes two to tango” mean to Bert?  Dancing alone doesn’t cut it, and you don’t have to know how to two step to dance at the Spoke.  Just come share in the fun.  What does “it takes two to tango” mean to Lee, our guest and soon to be member?  It means Amy is mean table topics master and called on a guest.  Wait, that’s not what Lee said!  Lee actually was a great sport and said it means one person talked someone else into doing something.  Is there truth to the statement that you only have one chance to make a good first impression?  The secretary doesn’t recall if Rich said true or false, but he told a great story about love at first sight.   “Take off your clothes and I’ll tell you if I love you” – or something along those lines.  Good stuff.  (And proof that we are all suckers for good stories.  That’s the part that we remember!)

The speeches – which 205 pounds of sexy pointed out were 2 in number – were even better.  Brian told us about an upcoming trip he’s taking to Sudan to follow up on some work he did there in 2007.   Last time, he and his team put a roof on a building.  This time they’ll be building a ceiling and desks.  In his speech, he encouraged everyone to pray, give or go.  Just be careful about Sudanese rat pee infested jerky.  Then Louis delivered his second 10th speech and inspired us to be happy where we are.  He told a tale about a Persian farmer who left his farm in search of diamonds and killed himself without realizing that his farm was itself a vast diamond mine.  He challenged us to find contentment, which is true wealth.

Albert did a good job evaluating the meeting, including Keith’s warm intro, the bold presence of 205 pounds of sexy, and the variety of strengths in the table topics.  Maureen evaluated Brian and encouraged him to provide more visuals of Sudan and to explain the name ”Harvesters Orphanage.”   Brendan evaluated Louis and complimented his thoughtful and interesting speech but challenged him to continue aiming for compelling and dynamic.

205 pounds of sexy then closed the meeting with the universal sign for peace, thereby reiterating his theme for the day.

Thanks to Lora, Wendy, and Rey for being role players.  Great first meeting of 2009 everyone!
